Police Chief Art Acevedo is one of the finalists for the Dallas chief of police, said a spokeswoman with the Austin Police Department.
Anna Sabana said today that Acevedo applied to become the chief of police for Dallas, although she could not say when he applied.
She confirmed that he was a finalist for the open position.
"I think it is really important for me and my family," Acevedo said in an interview, "that I keep my options open."
He said he is not dissatisfied with his job, but that the average tenure of a police chief is three to five years.
Acevedo has been Austin police chief for nearly three years.
